Experiment II

Introduction

In this stage, we intended to allow the ice to move around the space. We tried to allow the ice cubes to move around the space through strings, from corner to corner. This way, the ice cubes would have slowly melted whilst moving, creating an abstract painting that records their life trajectory. Simultaneously, in this stage we also tried altering with the properties of ice when it comes in contact with another substance. In this case, we tried salt and ice, the salt slowly melts the ice which freezes again. That way the salt can be used as a “glue”.




Problem

Ice is difficult to control. It slid right through the fishing rope. We couldn’t control the movement of the ice. Hanging the ice cubes with strings would mean that, in a matter of seconds, all the ice cubes would end at the same point and no movement would occur.




Solution

1. The use of static blocks of ice.
2. The use of tubes. In this case the defrosting ice would alter the structure of the tubes.
